Lazy Sunday...

It is a nice and relaxing lazy Sunday here in the house of Wolf. Today is the first REAL down time I have had in a while. Jack had surgery Tuesday, which is always a harrowing experience as it takes a lot to wake him up after the fact. Two hours of surgery and 4 hours of trying to get him awake and his pain levels under control.

Things have been better this time. Again, I can not say much for legal reasons, but the healing process has been faster and with the exception of one day, his attitude after the fact has been much better than it usually is.

Today I slept in, and after a very stormy and nasty day yesterday, it is a bright, sunny, and HOT day today. It got up to 88 degrees here, and I finally had to cut the air on as it was hotter here in the house. I took a cool shower and drug my only strapless sundress out of the back of the closet, so I am nice and comfy.

We decided not to cook a big meal today, as neither of us thought adding heat to the house was a good idea, since our a/c  is trying to shake 4 months of being unused off. It took it a while to cool the house down, since we waited so long to turn it on. It finally caught up and it is a comfy 77 here inside. I am loving it. It is so nice not to be bundled up from head to toe from the time I wake until I go to bed at night. Of course, as is typical of a Florida Spring, cooler weather will be back for the next few days, even dipping down to below freezing at night, but today gave us a taste of things to come, and I am happy.

I have just been chilling out with Jack, watching the race, today. No laundry or cleaning. That will be tomorrow. I am going to start my Spring Cleaning tomorrow. Time to deep clean and do some de-cluttering. Soon I will be able to put the heavy Winter coats and clothes away, and bring my shorts and thinner t-shirts back out.

Alex spent most of this last week with my Mom, since the kids are out on Spring  Break from school, so I could concentrate on taking care of Jack. We are both ready for her to go back to school. She gets bored very easily and she misses her friends.

So today is a day of rest, before our usual schedule resumes tomorrow, and  I start getting things put back in order around here. I got a few of the Spring editions of my magazines in the mail this week and once I finish here I am going to sit down and  thumb through them. I am loving all the bright colors and plants and flowers gracing the glossy pages.

Life is simply good today.

How was your weekend?

I hope your week kicks off to a great start!

Sleepy Sunday NaBloWriMo Day 21

Good afternoon folks. It is a sleepy kind of day here in the House of Wolf.

We went to my Mother's house for her little celebration for Alex's birthday. She made Alex's favorite meal of potato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches, and made her a pumpkin cake. Shaped, not flavored. We stayed  for a couple of hours, bur Mom ( who works at home 4 days a week ) had to work and Jack and I were ready to come home. We both really want to take a nap, but it is too late in the day. For me it is, maybe not for him.

Last week my 14 year old son told me he was interested in Paganism; Wicca to be specific, and has been asking me a lot of questions about it. I am pleased. I do not influence any of my kids intentionally, I feel kids should be old enough to study different religions on their own, and make their own educated choice, and that means I have never volunteered any info to any of my kids unless they have directly asked me.

I told him I would let him borrow some of my books, and I had some things I could give him to help him get started on his exploration. I explained that I was not Wiccan, but I had some Wiccan books that could help him.

I never really knew how much he and I are alike about certain things. Music, and animals, we like a lot of the same types of things,  but as he has always been a quiet child, we never really talked about anything until recently. It is nice to know that we share similar interests.

My eldest daughter dabbled in it for a while, but it was not really her thing, which is fine. It will be interesting to see if this is the path that calls to my son, I am excited to see him start his journey.

Nothing else is really going on today. Jack is resting, playing a PS3 game in bed, Alex is playing with her friend down the road, and I am here, about to lose myself in some Facebook games for a while. I am taking this last day to rest before everything starts back up tomorrow.

So that is it for me today, see you tomorrow!

Another day of rest. NaBloWriMo Day 17

Today Alex stayed home from school, as she was not feeling well yesterday, so I decided to keep her home for the day, which also meant we got to sleep in. I did not get up until 1 this afternoon, so obviously I was tired, but that sort of messes me up since I have to go to bed in a couple of hours and I am not tired yet lol.

Jack cooked dinner and did the first round of dishes from breakfast and lunch, so my dinner clean up was easy. I did a little writing but that is pretty much it. Not a bad day overall.

Alex is out of school Friday for a teachers planning day, so tomorrow starts a long weekend, and I am looking forward to it. Things have been so crazy the rest will be nice. We are supposed to go to a wedding Saturday, but Jack has been having a hard time getting around, and it is at a lighthouse, with lots of walking, so we might not make it. Sunday is Alex's birthday celebration at my Mom's. She got her a few presents and is making her a pumpkin shaped cake, along with making her favorite meal, potato soup, so that should be fun.

Not much else going on around here, which is a good thing. This week has been pretty calm and I am thankful for that. I hope the trend continues.

Tomorrow I am going to just chill out and do some writing, and maybe a little dusting and running the vac, but that is all I have intentions of doing.

So there.

I am out of here for the night folks. See ya tomorrow!

A Day of Rest : NaBloWriMo day 14

Today was a much needed day of rest for me.

I went to bed at one this morning, and I slept until one this afternoon. Twelve hours of coma-like bliss. I felt like a totally different person when I woke up. I wanted to sleep longer, but my muscles demanded that I get up.

I have done nothing today, other than make a simple dinner of deconstructed pot pie and mashed potatoes, and cleaning up the dishes. It is hard for me to just sit and do nothing all day, but my mind, body, and spirit really needed the break. I feel much more like myself. I am hoping with another 7 hours of sleep tonight, I will feel great tomorrow after I wake up.

I am so excited for tomorrow. My baby girl Alex will be 8 years old. When I return home from taking her to the bus in the morning, I will go on a cleaning spree and get the house back into shape. Then, after resting a bit from that, around 1 pm I am going to make Alex birthday cupcakes. I am not the best sweets baker by any means, so I cheated and bought a mix. Alex loves Halloween, as she associates it with her birthday month, so I bought a Halloween cake mix, vanilla with little orange and black candy bits inside, and Halloween frosting...orange with little ghosts and witch and black cat sprinkles. She is going to love it. I also bought some balloons and streamers, and I am going to blow up the balloons, attach them to the end of the streamers, and hang them from the living room ceiling. We have been buying her small gifts here and there over the last few months, so now she has one of those giant gift bags full of little things. So when she gets home tomorrow afternoon, she will walk in to a room filled with dancing balloons in the air, a platter of spooky cupcakes, and a huge bag of gifts. I hope she is happy. This year will be so different for her, with Dad gone, and I really want her day to be special. I think she will be thrilled, and I can hardly wait until tomorrow when I can get it all put together.

On a more personal note, I am really hoping things turn a corner for me. I want to be myself again, and I am going to start taking steps to return to what I feel I should be.

One of the things I needed most was rest, and so I took it today. It was the right thing to do. Next, I need to get my house back in order. I HATE having a messy house, and over the last month I have been keeping it picked up, so as not to go totally nuts, but I have not deep cleaned in a while, and anyone who knows me, knows that having a messy place is not what I am about. So tomorrow I will get the place set back to rights, as it should be, and I know I will feel much better for it. I have not done my fall cleaning yet, and I am itching to get it done.

After that comes the task of getting things in my life organized again. My word is my bond, and I have been through so much the last month that I have fallen short of obligations I have made, and that really bothers me. Everyone has been understanding, and I am grateful, but again, that is not me. When I say I am going to do something, I do it, and falling short of that is a terrible thing to me. So I will get myself reorganized and back on track and do the things I said I would do. I do not want people to feel they can not count on me to do something because I do not meet deadlines. I have been very stressed over that.

There will be other things, but I need to get these done and out of the way first. Those are the big ones.

So thanks for hanging in there with me folks. I know I have been all over the place for a bit, but I am bound and determined to get our from under this black cloud, and let the sun warm my face once again.

Until tomorrow!

Summer Vacation draws to a close....

Today is the last day of summer vacation for the kids. Tomorrow they go back, armed with new backpacks filled with shiny new school supplies, ready to start a new year of learning and making friends and memories.

I have spent this week getting us back into our school day routines. Up at 6 am and Alex in bed by 9 or 10, and myself to bed by 11. It has not been that difficult. Jack said I should sleep in this morning, as it is the last day I can do so, and that sounded like a good idea. It did not work out that way. He woke me at 6 and I snuggled deeper into the covers, Alex climbing in bed with me and out like a light. I dozed for about 45 minutes and then my eyelids sprang open like those old window shades that roll up and down.

My body and mind remember.

They remember the routine, and I have to say, as much of a night owl as I am, I have been happier getting up at six and greeting the sun as it rises in the sky. The only down side is the days are SO long. Getting up at noon meant Jack would be home in 4 hours. Getting up at six in the morning means it is 10 hours until I see him, and time drags on. I get much more accomplished however, which is a good thing.

Tomorrow is a half day, with a full day on Friday. I plan to take the next two days to just decompress and enjoy the blissful silence that comes with an empty house. Monday I will hit the ground running, crank up my stereo for the first time in 3 months and rock out while I do some power cleaning.

This summer has not been as bad as I expected, to be honest. Alex was gone a lot, playing outside and with the kids of the neighborhood. She made a new friend, and spent the night away over a dozen times, with nary a tear in her eye. Much different that last year, when the thought of being away from us after dark was terrifying to her. She has grown so much.

The last two weeks or so, however, have been a nightmare. She was then aware that school would be starting soon, and the kids of the neighborhood were getting ready to go back to school and taking last minute mini-vacations and were gone a lot, so Alex was here all the time. So she was bored and she talks..like all the time. She got in trouble the other day for not being quiet and I sent her to her room and she was sitting on the edge of her bed, with her own hand over her mouth, and was STILL TALKING. I think silence makes her twitchy, upon further reflection..her mind moves so fast, silence is torture to her. The problem is, noise makes ME twitchy. My mind moves so fast that the silence and stillness is a welcome respite from the constant brain chatter that goes on all day.

So we have butted heads a lot over the last two weeks. She makes me more than a little crazy at times, and I am glad she will be going back to school so we get a break from each other and I will look forward to her talking to me and telling me what she has learned that day.

Another thing that is making me happy is the weather. It has been deliciously cool here the last two mornings. It has been around 64 to 66 and it has been so nice. I have had the house open the last two mornings until noon, when the humidity creeps back up and the air has to come back on. These few hours have been amazing, it reminds me that this horrible heat will not last forever and Fall is fast upon us.

So now the days will pass by once more in routine, and this gives me a strange inner peace. Good things are happening left and right, and I look forward to seeing what each new day brings.

Winding down....

I hope everyone had a good Yule/Xmas week! For the most part mine was great, and it was nice to spend time with the majority of my immediate family for the holiday. Things are winding down finally, but my body and mind are still not ready to return to long posts of cohesive thoughts just yet, so I am taking another day to recover so to speak.

I notice it is still fairly quiet in blogland, so I guess a lot of you are in the same boat I am.

Again, I hope you all had a good week and I shall return to the writings of the Crazy Witch soon enough!

*Hugs and Love!*
